Last weekend I went to the Twin Cities Media Alliance conference (Networking Across the New Media http://tcmediaforum.wik.is/). I learned about video from Matt Peiken and Jason Barnett.
I learned a lot. I learned tow good reasons to do video. First, I learned that the advantage of video over other social media is that it’s easy to share video. Potential partners and fans can easily embed your video on their site – as opposed to linking to you blog post or Twitter. A link is great – but it’s not as inviting as embedded content. Second, potential partners and others cannot aggregate your video. They really have to show it asis.
Hmm. I haven’t through of that. It makes the case for making sure that your name and contact info is all over the video.
A couple of random tips I picked up – be sure to label, tag and describe your video. iVideo (http://www.ivideoapp.com/) was offered as good video editing tools.
Kind of a different Byte today but I thought that was worth sharing. I’m hoping to look into learning more about video editing in early 2010. So maybe I’ll have more info then.
So you’ve got your Twitter account set up. Maybe you’ve tweeted a couple of times. Maybe you have a few followers but you’re wondering how you stack up against your Twittering friends.
Twitalyzer http://twitalyzer.com/twitalyzer/ is a free Twitter stats tool. Type in your Twitter ID and it will tell you how you’re doing. There’s a nice video that kind of gives the ins and outs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHJfy3Vd1D8 – but even if you don’t have time to watch the video, it’s pretty self explanatory.
That being said some of the added features didn’t work all that well for me. I tried integrating Twitalyzer into Google Analytics and didn’t see much – I’m not sure if that’s a function of Twitter not factoring in heavily to the sites I checked or whether it just wasn’t working well. I found the same when I tried to compare my Twitter stats with stats of friends.
I have been totally negligent in the Byte lately and I’m cheating today by sharing news, not a tip. I apologize but I wanted to send a heads up about two events that are coming up. Also I just posted notes from a presentation I gave today on telling a story using social media: http://tinyurl.com/ygh7k7g (It actually does contain tips.) It was a webinar and I hope soon to write about giving a webinar. It’s hard but I think I picked up some tips that might make life easier for you should you ever be in a position to present for a webinar.
Here are the events:
